Until a few years ago, CAD/CAM technology was the most recent breakthrough in dentistry. Although CAD/CAM is still widely utilized as an important tool in dentistry today, 3D printing has become a digital revolution that the dental industry has quickly embraced, both chair-side and in dental laboratories.

For the past decade, the dentistry has been at the forefront of 3D printing innovation, and it is still finding new ways to optimize workflows in occlusion-related applications, ranging from direct 3D printed dental splints and night guards to dentures, models, and more.

Every industry requires assistance in fast modifying its working style in response to technological advancements. 4D printing is a novel technology that uses the inputs from smart materials, and the 3D printed item becomes another structure via the impact of external energy sources.

The lecture highlights the role of 3D and 4D printing in dental occlusion from the own point of view of the lecture presenter.
